How to check that your generator is original
Fake and “refurbished as new” generators are a real problem. These are simple checks you can do yourself — including when we deliver to you.
1. The box and the packaging
- The generator should come in the manufacturer's box, sealed, with the brand name and model printed on it.
- The model on the box must match the model on the generator and on your order.
2. The rating plate and the serial number
- Every genuine generator has a metal or printed rating plate with the model, power (kVA/kW), voltage and a serial number.
- Check that the serial number on the generator matches the one on the box or documents, where the brand prints it there.
- A missing, scratched or loose plate is a warning sign.
3. The manual, accessories and warranty card
- Look for the user manual, tool kit and accessories listed for that model.
- The warranty card should show the model and serial number and the date of sale.
4. Signs of use
- A new generator has no oil stains, no fuel in the tank and no soot in the exhaust before the first start.
- Scratches, repainting or worn bolts can mean a used unit.
5. The seller
- Get a receipt or invoice with the model and the price.
- Pay only after the seller has confirmed your order and given you an order number.
- If in doubt, you can ask the brand's official distributor to confirm the serial number.
